Finca Las Encinas is a lovely rural house set within it’s own tree-packed grounds near the town and lake of Iznajar just over the Malaga border into Cordoba, Granada is also equidistant. This is the home of professionally trained Clive and his wife Maki.
We chose Finca Las Encinas for our first cooking class and stayed overnight in their small B&B. These are fun, relaxed classes for up to 4 people, we were only two in the class but there were more staying for dinner, which we were cooking and going to eat with them.
More like helping and cooking with a friend, Clive is calm and organised and together we produced some great tapas while partaking of a beer or two. Clive’s speciality is Andalusian and Spanish and he loves to share and explain the dishes.
We chose the tapas cooking session and started around 5pm to be prepared in time for dinner. Our Tapas Menu –
Almejas con Jamon – Clams with cured Ham
Berenjenas con Miel y Cilantro – Aubergines with Honey and Coriander seeds
Cogollos con Ajos fritos – Little Gem Lettuce with Garlic chips
Gambas al Ajillo – Garlic Prawns
Patatas Bravas – Spicy Potatoes
Pimientos de Piquillo rellenos con Bacalao – Red Peppers stuffed with Salt Cod
Sitting around the dining table with other guests was fun as we were asked about the dishes which we could describe in detail like proud parents, as we ate our creations. Altogether charming and calming. Lovely hosts, peaceful location and pretty accommodation.
